The Boarding School at BBIS

In late August 2008, after one year of preparation, BBIS Boarding School opened its doors to international students from 9th to 12th grades (EU citizens as of 6th grade) whose families are not moving to Berlin but are internationally minded and intent on offering their children schooling in an international English language community.

Currently, 20 students from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, Russia, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, and the USA have joined our community who are determined to nurture their own strong minds, bodies and spirits and to further international understanding and tolerance among themselves, in our community in Berlin-Brandenburg and throughout the world.

The boarding facility in Potsdam-Babelsberg is a 20 minute drive away from the BBIS campus, and the students are bussed daily to and from school. The boarding facility’s location offers direct public transportation into the city centre of Berlin and into neighbouring Potsdam as well. In August 2010 the boarding facility will move onto the school campus in Kleinmachnow and will then offer space for up to 35 students.

Our present boarding facility offers newly renovated single, double and triple rooms including private WC/showers.

A comfortable dining room, a kitchen, a laundry room, a large recreation room and a private courtyard enable the boarding students to truly feel at home and enjoy and learn from each other as a group. Adult mentors live in apartments adjacent to the student’s quarters and are responsible for the students’ well-being during their time in Berlin-Brandenburg. The morning and evening routines are supervised as well as the weekend time which regularly includes outings and activities.

In the boarding school we aim for our students to:

• embrace a healthy lifestyle,
• reach their academic potential to the fullest,
• practice culture sharing in their international community.

All of the boarding school offerings including the living space, duties, projects, daily routines, and after school and weekend activities are conceived to further these goals and provide the students with a nurturing and safe environment.
