IBCC Programme

The new dual award for grades 11 and 12: the International Baccalaureate Career-Related Certificate (IBCC) with High School Diploma

We are proud to be the first international school in the world authorized to deliver all four IB programmes, including the new IB Career-related Certificate (IBCC).

Introduced in August 2011, the IBCC now provides BBIS students in grades 11 and 12 with a unique alternative programme that combines two challenging IB Diploma certificates with additional career-related courses. The two-year IBCC programme is an attractive option for those students for whom the IB Diploma course is not appropriate or who otherwise seek a vocationally orientated course of study. In a professional and supportive setting, students learn in small groups with individualized timetables. The new IBCC gives wide access to a high quality international education and the kinds of learning fostered in the IB Diploma.

Curriculum and Internships

The modern curriculum focuses on business studies in combination with exciting internships in companies and organizations in and around Germany’s capital city. It provides students with ‘hands-on’ career-oriented learning opportunities, individually tailored for the specific needs of our students. The internship component of the course also enhances college applications for those seeking such a path.

IBCC Students

The IBCC Diploma is the right choice for students who want an interesting, challenging, real-life, and career-oriented qualification. The two-year IBCC programme is an attractive alternative for those students for whom the IB Diploma course is not appropriate or who otherwise seek a vocationally orientated course of study. It is suitable for those whose previous educational background has not yet equipped them for the academic rigours of the IB Diploma or those who prefer a more practically-orientated qualification.

Beginning ESL students planning on returning to their country of origin to take entrance exams after Grade 12 are also good candidates for this programme.

The IBCC Core Curriculum

The study programme for students choosing the IBCC comprises a set of core components:

  • two full IB Diploma certificate courses
  • CAS (Creativity, Action, Service)
  • an independent Reflective Project
  • an Approaches to Learning course
  • a foeign language course

Focusing on business and professional careers

The IBCC has a clear business orientation by including:

  • the IB Diploma Business and Management certificate (an exclusive option for IBCC students only)
  • an IB Diploma language certificate or other suitable language course(s) in a mother tongue or foreign language
  • internships outside school
  • regular visits to companies, trades fairs, business colleges and talks from local business leaders.

Preparing students for the challenges of the 21st century

In addition to the core curriculum and business components, IBCC students study further life-pertinent subjects such as:

  • Mathematics
  • Art & Technology
  • Science
  • Humanities
  • Physical Education
  • Art and Design

Projects and trips also contribute to the practical and career-related orientation of the IBCC.

Personalized Learning

Thanks to the personalized learning and individualized timetables, the curriculum is made widely accessible to students with various educational backgrounds and matches their specific needs. IBCC students learn in small groups with the individual guidance of dedicated teachers. Their learning is enhanced by professional technology, and each student is supplied with a personal laptop with access to the school’s wireless network. This enables students to develop the effective research, communication and design skills they will need in their later careers.

The students work closely together with our College and Careers Counsellor to find their individual path beyond school, and the IBCC Coordinator supports each student in their daily school life.  A specially designated IBCC room gives the students their own personal base within the high school community.

Beyond BBIS

Students who do not follow the full IBCC programme will receive a certified High School Diploma on successfully completing their course of study. As a MSA/CIS accredited school, the BBIS High School Diploma and IBCC are recognized as a high school diploma in the US and Canada, giving access to North American university systems and European private universities or preparatory colleges. They also provide a gateway for students who choose to pursue non-academic training after attaining their school-leaving certificate.
