News from the Music Department!
Apart from the wonderful BIMP weekend, we have been very busy in the Music department. Last week, Grade 8 went to the musical instrument museum in Berlin as part of their Renaissance Unit that they are covering in Music and Humanities classes. Today, Sebastian Flaig, lecturer in oriental percussion at Global Music Academy and expert in Early Music and Milo Pablo Momm, expert in historic dance, came into BBIS to teach Grade 8 about Renaissance Pavane and Galliard dances.
We had a lot of fun imagining what it would have been like in the Renaissance period and learning the music and dance moves. On Monday 20th March, we kick-started a new Modern Foreign Languages and Music Department joint unit in Grade 9, whereby students will be analysing and performing songs in French, Spanish, Mandarin and German. Fuasi Abdul Khaliq, brilliant jazz saxophonist resident in Berlin, and Robby Geerken, afro-cuban percussion lecturer at Global Music Academy in Berlin, came in to teach Grade 9 about afro-cuban percussion to help launch our new unit. We had a huge amount of fun and time flew!
We are looking forward to Fuasi and Robby returning on Friday 28th April to perform with their sextet in the MPR during periods 1 & 2 to end the MFL week with a bang!
