PYP - Week 3
Many thanks to those parents who came to the information morning about our curriculum. Ms Roy, our PYP Coordinator explained the philosophy behind the PYP curriculum and what our expectations are for your children. If you were unable to come to the meeting and would like more information, please contact her directly (firstname.lastname@example.org) or myself (email@example.com).
Our Fifth graders started their new instrumental programme this week and took part in an instrument carousel, enabling them to try out different instruments. Music teachers from the local music school here in Kleinmachnow came to the school and the students were able to try out the flute, tuba, trumpet, trombone, saxophone and clarinet. Next week there will be a Percussion workshop and after that the students will be able to choose an instrument to learn for the year. We are hoping to have a small orchestra by the end of the term, which will be terrific! Grades Four and Five are also in a weekly choir led by Brent and Ms Panni (who teaches music in the secondary school) and accompanied by our Secondary DP/CP Head, Mr Hand. It is lovely to hear the students singing together every Thursday morning.
This morning the whole Primary School will assemble to sing a song about Peace which we will video and send to an international group who have set up a ‘Peace Project.’ Every year they ask schools around the world to sing a particular song and send in video of this happening. The video clips are then put together and distributed back to the schools. It will be interesting to see how many schools participate. Our ‘Peacemakers’ , a group of students who will be trained to help resolve conflict in the playground, have been a big part of organising this with Ms Roy and I would like to thank them all for their work to remind us of how to be peaceful and the need for peace in the world
So quite a musical week for us in Primary School…and so on that note (!), I wish you a lovely weekend.
