Management & Board

The Berlin Brandenburg International School GmbH is a state certified day school and is a registered non-profit organization.  The shareholders general meeting consists of seven equal voting members and six parents. The five member board of directors is elected according to by-laws.


The board of directors created positions for two directors. Thomas Schädler, School Director and CEO, is responsible for leading and ensuring high quality of the educational programmes. Burkhard Dolata is the Business Director and CFO responsible for administrative and financial management.

The management team of BBIS is composed of both directors, the principals of the Elementary, Middle, and High Schools, as well as the heads of Student Support Services, Boarding, and Information Technology

Director/CEO
Thomas Schädler
joined BBIS in 2005 as its Director. He has previously been the head of international schools in Singapore, Zurich, Stuttgart and most recently The Bahamas. He holds a BA in education from Switzerland, an MBA from the UK and is presently pursuing a doctorate at Lehigh University in the USA.

Business Director/CFO
Burkhard Dolata
joined BBIS in 2001 and started work as CFO in January 2004. He holds a degree in General Business Administration and a German Business Diploma (Diplomkaufmann). Previously, he worked as Executive Software Specialist and Finance Director for international computer and technology companies. Until 2003, he was an Executive Board Member of a Residential Building Corporation. Burkhard Dolata was born and raised in Germany, is married and has four children.

High School Principal/Deputy Director
Richard Bartlett
(BA, PGCE, LTCL, MA, NPQH) joined this school in 1998 after working as a teacher or teacher trainer in England, Greece, Turkey and Brunei, and having served on international school supervisory boards. He enjoys teaching the IB Theory of Knowledge course and coaching soccer.

Middle School Principal
Michaela Jung
holds an MA in Education, and has been teaching in the UK, Germany and Portugal since 1990. She spent several years working in educational publishing as Managing Editor for Scholastics in London and as a consultant to broadcasters. In 2004, Michaela joined BBIS as a language teacher and three years later took on the role of MYP Coordinator. In 2010, she started her new position as Middle School Principal. She has one son and shares her family’s passion for the beautiful game of soccer.

Elementary School Principal
Camille Du Aime
joined BBIS in 2004 and has served as Elementary Principal since 2008.  She has a BA from the American University of Paris, earned her teacher’s credential from Univ. California San Diego and completed a Master’s in Educational Administration at Michigan State University.  She has taught or been principal in four other international schools in Stuttgart, Paris, Hanoi and Bali.  She has two children and is herself the graduate of an international school.

Head of Student Support Services

Dr. Christina Limbird came to BBIS in 2005 after completing her doctoral research on how bilingual children learn to read.  She holds degrees in Psychology and Education from universities in the US and Germany and has worked with children with learning difficulties for 10 years.  Before joining BBIS, Christina co-founded and managed an NGO aimed at peace education and conflict transformation projects in the Balkans. In addition to heading the Student Support Services department, she serves as school psychologist and Elementary school counsellor.

Head of Boarding
Whitney Sterling joined BBIS in October 2007. He completed his BA at Yale University and a Masters of Education at Hamburg University. A qualified English and German teacher in both the United States and Germany, he gained high school principal certification at the Boston College Lynch School of Education. He has come to BBIS after an 8 year headmastership at a German boarding school. Whitney Sterling is married and has three children.  

IT Manager
Harry Klooster
joined BBIS in August 2005. He completed his BSc, a Masters of Bio-Chemistry and Diploma of Education at Sydney University. As a qualified Science and Maths teacher he taught in Australia and held the position of Head of Department and House Master in a variety of Australian schools. As part of his Science degree he studied Computer Science and in his ‘spare time’ studied and became a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. He has come to BBIS after working as an IT Manager in a variety of NSW and Queensland schools. Harry Klooster is married and has two children.
