El Siglo de Oro Exhibition
Recently, our Grade 9 students who are studying Spanish went to the Gemäldegalerie to visit the exhibit El Siglo de Oro – the Golden Age of Spanish art – one of the most important and popular chapters in European cultural history. Together with Ms Montaraz and Mr Lopez, the students visited a major exhibition showcasing 17th century Spanish paintings and sculptures in all their fascinating variety.
El Siglo de Oro: The Age of Velázquez included more than 130 masterpieces by Velázquez, El Greco, Francisco de Zurbarán, and Bartolomé E. Murillo, as well as lesser-known artists such as Alonso Cano and Gregorio Fernández. Our 9th graders enjoyed the guided tour of the exhibition in Spanish and were given some time to appreciate the paintings and to work on descriptive questions in Spanish individually. The purpose of this trip was to promote and appreciate language and culture through art and history. It was a fantastic experience that was very much enjoyed by the students and the perfect way to celebrate the Spanish National Day.
