Job Description
- To support boarding students and perform duties as a live-in mentor
- To support the Head of Boarding in being responsible for the welfare and care of boarding students (personal, emotional & social wellbeing) at BBIS Boarding.
- To support the management in efficiently staffing, and organising and resourcing boarding. To provide a stimulating, orderly, family atmosphere where the boarding students feel safe, happy & enabled to learn best.
- To assist in leading a team of boarding mentors in a wide range of stimulating activities for boarding students
- As designated by the Head of Boarding, lead on day-to-day operational matters to ensure the safe and secure operation and development of boarding
- To deputise for the Head of Boarding in matters arising in the event that the Head of Boarding is unavailable, including recruitment and marketing interviews, tours and events
- To assist in ensuring that all members of the boarding staff are familiar with boarding policies and procedures, and to support the Head of Boarding in staff training and professional development
- To ensure that boarding staff, parents and boarding students understand the aims and objectives of boarding and the principles on which community life in the house is based, in accordance with the Statement of Boarding Principles, through induction, appropriate materials and handbooks
- To keep and oversee suitable records of boarding students’ progress, welfare, health and wellbeing achievements and misconduct: to provide such reports and references as may be reasonably required
- To be aware of the academic strengths and weaknesses of boarding students and to liaise with school staff to ensure that relevant background circumstances of boarding students are known and discussed
- To ensure timely contact with parents/agents, to ensure that they are fully informed about their child’s progress and welfare; to ensure that family incidents and problems are brought to the attention of those who need to know
- To be responsible for operational mentor budget and disbursement of appropriate allowance to staff
- To lead on liaising with support staff, such as maintenance and cleaning, to ensure the safe and secure operation of the boarding programme
- Assist with appointment and recruitment of boarding staff
- Ensure that adequate arrangements for ‘back up’ cover are made
- Ensure systems are in place to hear the voice of the child through student council meetings and boarding students questionnaires. Oversee the collection of boarder’s views and any actions resulting from them that lead to improvements in boarding welfare and care as appropriate
- To perform any other key tasks which the Head of Boarding may reasonably assign
