Grade 10s Start Personal Project

On Wednesday, 21st August, Grade 10 students took part in a Personal Project Boot Camp, designed to equip them with the necessary information and skills to succeed in starting and completing their Personal Projects. Students were in and out of presentations with our Personal Project Coordinator Ms Pennell and also working in groups, coming up with and extending their ideas to solidify their proposed projects. Their most important first deadline is coming up on Thursday 29th and Friday 30th August, when students will be tasked with individually presenting their project idea to a Proposal Panel (made up of teachers) in order for their projects to be approved. 

MYP Personal Project

During Year 5 of the Middle Years Program (Grade 10 at BBIS), students complete a Personal Project. This is a requirement of the program, and is a significant piece of work, on a topic of their choice, done over an extended period of time. It is their chance to do what they want to demonstrate and apply all the skills they have acquired up until this point in their education. 

The aims of the Personal Project are to:

Participate in a sustained, self-directed inquiry within a global context;

Generate creative new insights and develop deeper understandings through in-depth investigation;

Demonstrate the skills, attitudes and knowledge required to complete a project over an extended period of time;

Communicate effectively in a variety of situations;

Demonstrate responsible action through, or as a result of, learning; and

Appreciate the process of learning and take pride in their accomplishments.

 

Why is this part of the MYP? So that students can:

Make a difference. Their Personal Project needs to matter to others or needs to solve a problem;

Discover skills and talents;

Consider career or training options;

Build skills and habits for the IB DP and CP programmes AND further education (e.g. university); and

Have fun doing something they love and are passionate about!

 

By March 2020, students in Grade 10 will have completed the following as part of the Personal Project:

Process journal → portfolio of evidence of the process

Product / outcome → Due December 2019

Exhibition stand → February 2020

Report → Final report due March 2020
