GISST Track and Field 2017-2018

News Type:
Date:
Wednesday, 13 June, 2018

Over the last two months, the BBIS track and field team has worked towards the last GISST tournament of the school year. During our practices, we have had an average of 30 students coming to each training session, which has been amazing. The circumstances of the sessions were not always easy due to the hot weather. Still the coaches were very impressed with the energy and commitment that our students showed. Last weekend we finally travelled to Erlangen for the GISST track and field tournament with 23 students in total. We were very sad that our team captain Lucas was unable to join us due to sickness. Before the tournament started, our students did a big cheer for Lucas, which showed great team spirit.

Like our training sessions, it was also very hot in Erlangen. This did not stop our students from performing on a very high level. None of the students complained about the weather and they gave their best for every event they did. The coaches are still very impressed about that! We have had many individual and team successes on both tournament days, which are listed below.

Back row:            Maya, Floris, Lizzie, Kit, Josephine H., Frank, Mia, Nokyom, Nicholas

If you are able to help, send an email to Wouter.allard@bbis.de and answer the following questions:

  • How many students are willing to host?                         2/3/4/more
  • Do you have any pets at home?                                     No/yes … (cats, dogs, rabbits, etc.)
  • Do you prefer the host boys or girls?                               (boys/ girls/ does not matter)

GISST Tennis

Last weekend BBIS took part in the GISST tennis tournament in Leipzig. In two days the students had to play six single games and six double games of 15 minutes each. The girls (Rebecca, Meila, Imbar and Shaiel) improved a lot during the tournament but unfortunately they lost many times by only a few points. They ended the tournament in a good way with their first team-win and the girls achieved 7th place!

Our BBIS boys won the tournament last year and they were really motivated to do the same this year. The boys (Stefan, Adam, Nicolas and Wilson) played very strong in both their singles and doubles. None of the other teams was able to beat them. The final game against Stuttgart was very close but BBIS managed to win the tournament two times in a row! Well done.

Individual achievements:

- Nicolas best 3rd seed single player of the tournament
- Stefan and Adam best 1st seed doubles of the tournament
- Nicolas and Wilson best 2nd seed doubles of the tournament

Team Habitat 2018 says THANK YOU

News Type:
Date:
Wednesday, 9 May, 2018

On April 18th the whole school came out for the Movathon to raise money to donate to Habitat for Humanity.
It was a bright blue day to be “moving” as a community in the support of those less fortunate than ourselves.
We had teams playing dodgeball, teams playing football and hundreds of students and staff running and walking around the Seeberg forest.

The grand donation total for the day was €4000 Euros, a truly amazingly generous amount.

Special thanks go to: Lucas P, Lisa J, Chris H, Lisa R, Claudia A for helping ensure a successful day.

In the first week of summer break, June 24 – 30, a team of students and staff will travel to Cumpana Romania to volunteer on a house building project.
The money raised goes into funding the Habitat for Humanity Global Village program, read more.

This is the 9th time BBIS has sent a team of volunteers abroad to help build, we are contributing in a very real way to enable people to have a home.

GISST Swimming - BBIS Waterproof Panthers

News Type:
Date:
Thursday, 26 April, 2018

Originally GISST swimming was supposed to take place in January, but due to the storm our team was unable to travel to Frankfurt. Out of eight schools only five schools were able to make it to Frankfurt. Still the GISST athletic directors decided that this event should still take place even though some school were not there. Luckily the International School of Frankfurt offered us another opportunity to still take part in this tournament.

We were invited to come over in April so our students could still swim their races. Instead of going with 23 students, we went this time with 9 students as the rest of the team had other commitments. The BBIS (waterproof) Panthers performed superbly individually and as a team. Everyone stood on the podium more than once!

The hosting school combined all the results from January and April together in order to work out the final standing of all the eight schools.
We would like to congratulate our U14 and Varsity boys for achieving 3rd place!

Waterproof Panthers - GISST Swimming

News Type:
Date:
Friday, 3 February, 2017

On Thursday the 19th of January, around twenty of our BBIS swimmers traveled together with their loyal mascot, the Panther, to Frankfurt for the GISST swim meet. Four teams, U14 and varsity in boys and girls, had the opportunity to compete against eight other international schools over the course of the tournament. For many students, this was their first ever swim competition and served as a great learning experience.

After a number of close races, several of the waterproof panthers made it to the finals. Notable performances by Imbar for achieving third place over 100 meters backstroke against the varsity girls. Also Oryan (third 50 backstroke), Liam (second 100 freestyle, second 200 freestyle and third 50 freestyle), Louis (third 100 freestyle, third 200 freestyle and third 50 fly) and Adam (third 100 breaststroke) achieved individual medals for the varsity boys’ team who together won a well-deserved second place overall for GISST.

The group is proud to come back smiling with new personal bests, experiences and not to forget their numerous medals. The team showed tremendous sportsmanship and it was lovely to see how the students encouraged each other at the pool. All our students are looking forward to representing BBIS again at next year’s tournament.
