Student Involvement in Report Card Writing
For the first time ever, BBIS MYP students from grade 6 to 10 will be actively involved in report card writing. For us, this is the next important step in educating confident, independent, and reflective students.
We believe it is vital that students feel responsible for their own learning and that they play an active role in this process. By writing their own section on the February Report Card, our students will have the chance to reflect on their strengths, list their goals, and describe what they feel their achievements have been so far.
Research by Martin Seligman and his team at the University of Pennsylvania suggests that people who know their strengths and actively reflect on and appreciate their achievements, not only develop better but also have more energy and motivation to push themselves further.
We hope that by adding this new experience to our report writing process, our students will get to know themselves better. This routine should help them learn how to formulate clear learning goals and develop steps to achieve them. Students will also be able to appreciate what they have accomplished, and can share it with teachers, parents and classmates.
