Winter Holidays Are Here
Winter Holidays Are Here
Winter holidays for all! Time to slow down, listen to each other and refresh family bonding. If you happen to be around, please drop in at our whole school assembly in the Sports Hall on Friday 16th around 13:35. An hour filled with music, updates from student groups and thank-you’s to all those who contributed so much since summer.
Our best wishes to all for a healthy, happy and successful 2017!
As an international school we want to inform our students about different cultural and religious celebrations to celebrate our diversity. The question has been raised by parents of students who don't celebrate Christmas, how much should we decorate the school and acknowledge the German Christmas tradition?
We have had some interesting discussions about this and decided to celebrate everything! It is important that our students learn about the culture in which they are living and understand that people celebrate different Festivals which are meaningful to them, in different ways.
Our German Department will be decorating their rooms with the German traditional Christmas decorations and explaining to the students the meaning behind them and classrooms are being decorated with lights. Information about different Festivals is displayed in the entrance and this morning we had a 'Festival of Lights assembly'. The joy of of our international community is all around us.
The most touching moment I experienced this week was when I accompanied our grade 6 to 8 MYP students to the SenVital home for the elderly here in Kleinmachnow. Our students, who are part of the Service Family “Joy of Music”, had been rehearsing Spanish and American Songs with Mr Lopez for the last 7 weeks. Ms Giegerich’s German class, who had been practising traditional German songs, joined in as well.
Our students introduced themselves in German and talked briefly about their home country, before the concert began. To see how many smiles the songs brought to the members of the audience was lovely to see. The BBIS students really enjoyed that many of the SenVital residents joined them for the two German songs at the end of the performance. When Mrs Friedrich from SenVital thanked our students for their concert and asked whether they could come back for another concert in Spring, they happily agreed.

Hello! We are a voluntary ECA club named Slankets at BBIS. We make blankets with sleeves to donate to children, along with journals and colored pencils. 2016 is almost over, which means that there probably are calendars in your house that you will need to throw away very soon. Slanket needs those calendars in order to decorate those journals which we donate to hospitalized children. It would be a pleasure if parents at BBIS could help Slankets out by donating old, used calendars. Please give the old calendars to your children so that they can drop them off at the collection boxes which will be placed in the Atrium and the back entrances of every house.
First collection will be on December 15th and 16th, and second donation will be on January 9th to January 16th.
Thank you for the cooperation.
