Winter Holidays Are Here
Winter Holidays Are Here
This time of the year is traditionally when we express gratitude to others who make our life a good one – from Thanksgiving to Christmas, and when we light up the dark days with festivals of light – from Diwali to Chanukah. My thanks go to all our stakeholders for making BBIS a wonderful place for learning: our (mostly) considerate and lovely kids of all ages, the parents and here especially the PTA reps for their endless support and constructive feedback, and the staff working hard on our core business i.e. making learning happen.
In the world of IT, updates on latest releases are sometimes published within a short time. This happened with last week’s BYOD guideline where – in the best spirit of BBIS! – we need to look at a few details once more.
From all of us here on the Seeberg, best wishes for the festive season, and a happy 2018!
It is always such a pleasure to see what our students have achieved since the beginning of the school year; the students who had no English and are now speaking, the students who were shy in school and are now confident in their abilities, the students who could not play an instrument at the beginning of the year and can now play music…our students are outstanding learners.
In the past few weeks we have enjoyed concerts from Grades 1-5, Early Education and the Grade 5 instrument class. In each one, the pleasure the students gained from being together and creating music, was so obvious. Many thanks to Brent, Lisa and the music teachers from Kleinmachnow music school who were able to make this happen.
I wish you all a very Happy Holiday with your family and friends, travel safely and I look forward to seeing you in 2018 on January 10th for the start of another year of learning here at BBIS!
As the year draws to an end, I would like to thank you for your contributions that make BBIS a vibrant school, a place where talent and creativity can flourish. We can be proud of our young thinkers, communicators, athletes, musicians, actors and aspiring artists.
Enjoy this snapshot of our art projects from primary and secondary school.
I wish you all happy holidays and a great start into 2018!
On Sunday 17 December, five students from the BBIS Slanket charity group went to Berlin Herz to deliver 20 handmade Slankets and Journals. The group donated BBIS gifts consisting of a teddy bear, colour pencil set, water bottle, journal and a Slanket (blanket with sleeves).
The Berlin Herz intern, Hannah, showed the group around the hospice where there is place for about ten children between the ages of birth to twenty-seven years old to receive palliative care. In Germany there are 22,000 such children. The students were humbled by the tour of the facilities as they realised the simple privilege of being born healthy and staying healthy. The music and light therapy room with the heated water- bed, a favourite space for the Berlin Herz guests, was also the favourite for the Slanketeers.
We aspire to donate many more Slankets and journals to Berlin Herz. We learnt from Hannah that our Slanket is a much loved product by the sick children’s parents because it is easier to use than a jacket which needs wrapping around the often immobile child’s back. Of course, our ECA group is always looking for donations of IKEA blankets (Polarvide 3.99) and old calendars so that we can continue supporting the children at the Berlin Herz.
As part of the IB Career-related Programme (IBCP), the 25 students taking this course will be carrying out a two-week internship in January right after the winter break. We’re glad that most students have already secured interesting work placements for themselves, ranging from working for a film maker or vet to getting work experience in a real-estate firm or jewellery store. We are still seeking further internships, for example in businesses (e.g. finance, marketing, retail), NGO’s or diplomatic services. In particular we are keen to find internship companies and organisations that can offer places to students with little German.
If you have any tips and contacts or can offer an internship place during one of these periods
