You Are What You Eat
Your diet is a bank account. Good food choices are good investments. (Bethenny Frankel)
As part of the two days of the Grade 11 focus on the ‘core’ of the IBDP and IBCP, and in the spirit of sustainability and wellbeing, the Grade 11 homerooms were asked to provide a pot-luck lunch for all of the grade. 11A and 11 B provided lunch on the first day and 11C and 11 D provided lunch on the second day. There were certain criteria to be met in the students’ planning, preparation and serving of the lunches:
- A range of dishes including options for vegetarians / vegans, with a focus on healthy eating;
- Minimal packaging, no plastic etc. The rubbish produced will be 'analysed';
- Identification of the source of the food - fair trade etc;
- The carbon footprint produced in preparing and providing the food
There was a competition as to which group would provide the better lunch according to the criteria above. The winning combination was 11B and 11C.
An appropriate prize is yet to be decided but it will not be a pizza lunch!
