SUPPORTING CHILDREN’S GROWTH
Within our primary classrooms, we foster a strong sense of community where every child feels valued and supported. Students learn to work both independently and collaboratively as they explore a range of stimulating topics. Our aim is to nurture globally minded, confident learners with a natural curiosity about the world.
We aim for a class size of 20 students, with a maximum of 24. When a class exceeds 20 students, we add a teaching assistant to ensure every child receives the attention and support they need.
TEACHING AND LEARNING
Your child’s homeroom teacher will teach Language, Maths, Science and Social Studies. Where possible, the work is trans-disciplinary - students focus on six in-depth units of inquiry over the course of the year.
Students also enjoy specialist lessons in German, Physical Education, Art, Music and Library. These are taught by specialist teachers. Information technology is used across subject areas to enrich learning and build digital confidence.
While we teach in English, we make sure to give our students exposure to German, our host language. Students learn German in small groups based on their proficiency level, with both German Language and Literature and German Language Acquisition classes available from Grades 1 to 5.
INCLUSIVITY
BBIS is an inclusive school. If your child has specific learning or language needs, our specialised teachers work closely with them to help ensure they can fully access the curriculum and feel supported in their learning journey.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Learning at BBIS extends far beyond the classroom. Students take part in a range of field trips in and around Berlin and Potsdam, enriching their understanding of the world around them.
Each class in Grades 1 to 4 participates in an overnight trip, building independence and strengthening friendships. Grade 5 students enjoy a week-long field trip - an experience that encourages leadership, teamwork and a sense of responsibility as they step into their roles as leaders of the Primary School.
STUDENT COUNCIL
We believe that every student should have a voice. From Grades 2 to 5, children can be elected by their peers to join the Student Council, giving them the opportunity to contribute ideas, shape school life and develop their leadership skills.
