FINDING THE RIGHT PATHWAY TO GRADUATION

Every student has different strengths, interests and plans for the future. At BBIS, our three pathways to graduation give students and families the opportunity to choose an academic programme that supports those individual goals.

In Grades 11 and 12, students can follow the full IB Diploma Programme (IB DP), combine the BBIS High School Diploma with selected IB DP certificates, or complete the BBIS High School Diploma.

A PATHWAY BUILT AROUND INDIVIDUAL GOALS

The BBIS High School Diploma offers greater flexibility for students who want to focus on particular interests or future plans.

For example, a student may be pursuing sport at a high level, preparing a portfolio for art or drama school, developing their own business, or taking specialised online courses connected to future university and career goals.

Students work towards the BBIS High School Diploma through courses that are recognised as equivalent to American High School courses. These subjects are assessed internally and include a final examination at the end of Grade 12. Students also complete Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) requirements and attend the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course.

COMBINING FLEXIBILITY WITH IB DP SUBJECTS

Students can also choose to take individual IB DP subjects at Standard Level (SL) or Higher Level (HL). They attend the same classes as students pursuing the full IB Diploma and complete the same IB coursework and assessments for those subjects. Students receive an IB certificate for each IB DP course successfully completed.

This allows students to combine the flexibility of the BBIS High School Diploma with selected IB DP subjects, choosing a programme that reflects their strengths, interests and plans for the future.

PREPARING FOR WHAT COMES NEXT

Whichever pathway a student chooses, planning for life after BBIS is an important part of the decision.

BBIS High School Diploma graduates have continued their studies at universities and higher education institutions around the world, including Northwestern University and the University of California, Davis in the USA; BIMM University Berlin and Constructor University in Germany; Hotelschool The Hague and Wageningen University in the Netherlands; Geneva Business School in Switzerland; and the American University of Paris in France.

University entry requirements vary between countries and institutions, and the BBIS High School Diploma does not provide direct entry to every university. Our Careers and College Counselling team therefore works closely with our students and their families to explore their options and understand the requirements for their preferred destinations.
