Courtney Blume

My role at BBIS:

I am the Grade Level Coordinator for our Early Education students.

When did you join BBIS?

I moved to Germany and joined BBIS in August of 2020.

What is your background?

I am Australian and currently Darwin is the place I consider as my Australian home. My parents are also teachers (education is in my blood!) and as a child I lived in the Solomon Islands and many parts of Australia. This gave me the international teaching bug and I have been fortunate enough to have also lived in other amazing countries around the world including Tanzania, Italy, Qatar, and Singapore as an adult. I hold a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education and I have been teaching for 10 years.

What inspires you in your professional role?

I love watching the spark in a child's eyes when they learn something new, make something wonderful, or achieve a task independently for the first time. I am also inspired by my students' imagination and the courageous creative risks they take when expressing themselves in the Atelier.

What are you passionate about?

Professionally I am passionate about providing a safe and welcoming space for our students to discover who they are and how they best connect to their ideas and emotions when expressing themselves creatively through dance, art, music, or dramatic play. In my personal life I am passionate about exploring and learning about the places and people that make our world special. I'm an avid reader, love scuba diving, and can often be spotted at live music performances.

What makes BBIS special?

The children. They make me smile every day with their curious and adventurous spirits as we learn and grow together.
