At BBIS, students in Grades 11 and 12 engage in Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) as a core part of the IB Diploma Programme. More than a requirement, CAS is a personal journey that encourages students to explore their interests, challenge themselves and contribute meaningfully to the world around them.
Through thoughtfully chosen experiences, students develop independence, collaboration skills and a strong sense of responsibility. By planning, acting and reflecting, they grow in confidence and resilience while learning what it means to be compassionate, engaged global citizens.
CAS brings together three interconnected strands:
Creativity - Exploring ideas, arts and innovation in new and imaginative ways
Activity - Committing to physical challenges that support wellbeing and balance
Service - Taking action to support others with respect, empathy and purpose
This year’s CAS experiences reflect the diversity of our students’ interests and the depth of their commitment. Recent projects include:
Producing and editing an economics podcast that brings current topics to life in an engaging and accessible format
Teaching younger students the basics of Blender and Lua, alongside leading drum workshops focused on rhythm and technique
Exploring creativity through cooking and baking by researching recipes and sharing results with family and peers
Designing and following a personal strength and explosivity training programme using campus facilities
Creating German vocabulary Quizlets to support peers in developing their language skills
Planning and coordinating multiple embassy visits for the BBIS Model United Nations group, from initial contact through to student preparation and on-site supervision
Organising bake sales over several weeks to raise funds for children in need
Competing as a team in the Wharton Global High School Investment Competition, managing a simulated investment portfolio while reflecting on ethics and collaboration
Working together on a service project to collect, purchase and deliver essential supplies to an orphanage
Volunteering with a charity initiative to sort donated items to be sent to children in countries affected by conflict
Across these experiences, students strengthened leadership, communication and teamwork skills while making a tangible impact. They raised money for children in need, supported peers’ learning, gained real-world insight into diplomacy and ethical decision-making, and reflected on empathy, responsibility and personal growth.
Experiences like these capture the spirit of CAS at BBIS: learning that is purposeful, reflective and rooted in action - and that continues to make a difference within our community and beyond.
