BBIS Celebrates Renewed Eco-Schools Recognition

BBIS Berlin Brandenburg International School is proud to share that we have once again been recognised as an Internationale Nachhaltigkeitsschule - Umweltschule in Europa (Eco-School). This renewed certification affirms our ongoing commitment to environmental awareness, community action and global responsibility.

This achievement reflects the dedication of our Green Team and our wider school community, whose initiatives help us live our guiding commitments of responsibility, compassion and innovation every day.

For the 2025/26 school year, BBIS will focus on two sustainability themes:

• Biodiversity
• Water conservation and sustainable food choices

These themes will guide student projects, classroom learning and community initiatives, deepening our understanding of environmental interdependence and encouraging responsible choices that make a lasting positive impact.

This year, we were honoured to host the Eco-Schools Award Ceremony 2025 on our campus. Students and staff from schools across Germany joined us both in person and online to celebrate the achievements of young people who are making sustainability a part of daily life. The event highlighted the strength of collaboration and the power of student-led action. Our own Green Team received an award for their outstanding projects and had the opportunity to present their work to the audience.

In addition, the team partnered with representatives from the “Bäume für 17 Ziele” (Trees for 17 Goals) initiative to add a plaque to one of our newly planted campus trees last month. This regional project connects schools and municipalities across Teltow, Stahnsdorf and Kleinmachnow, with each tree serving as a living ambassador for the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The plaques symbolise our shared commitment to sustainability, global citizenship and partnership.

At BBIS, we believe that sustainability begins with education and grows through action. Being recognised once again as an Internationale Nachhaltigkeitsschule - Umweltschule in Europa reaffirms our dedication to inspiring students to care deeply for the planet and to lead with purpose and compassion.
